Daniel Mainland

Hey, I'm Daniel!

So, you’re here to find out a little more about the guy behind the camera. Does he have a life outside of taking photos? And most importantly - are we going to get along?!

Well, first things first - I’m Daniel (obviously). Born and raised in Orkney, before I moved to uni in sunny Dundee where I met and fell in love with my wife. We lived in the beautiful Carse of Gowrie in Perthshire for a while before settling in Glasgow, where we have been for the past 14 years.

Before photography took over my life (in the best way possible), I spent about 10 years in retail management. But as my family grew, so did my love for photography. I was always snapping photos of my two girls to share with family spread far and wide, and that’s when I realised—this is what I’m meant to do.

Taking the leap from hobbyist to full-time photographer was hands down the best decision I ever made. It’s brought me so much joy, allowed me to meet incredible people, and taken me to places I never would’ve gone otherwise. Capturing real moments and milestones for families, couples, and amazing humans like you? That’s what it’s all about.

So, if you’re after someone who loves a good laugh, blends into the background like a photography ninja, and will 100% make sure you have an awesome time in front of the camera

- let’s do this!

a few of my favourite things...

Coffee isn’t just a drink for me—it’s a daily ritual, a little moment of joy in a busy world. Whether it’s a quiet morning brew before the chaos of the day begins or a mid-afternoon pick-me-up, there’s just something about that first sip that makes everything better. I love the rich aromas, the endless varieties to try, and, let’s be honest, the fact that it keeps me fueled for long days behind the camera. Bonus points if it comes with good company and a great conversation!

My family and I are absolutely musical daft—there’s nothing we love more than a trip to the theatre! Whether it’s belting out show tunes in the car or getting completely swept up in the magic of a live performance, musicals are a big part of our lives. Some of our all-time favorites are Six, Hamilton, and The Book of Mormon If there’s a new show in town, you can bet we’ll be there, tickets in hand and ready to sing along (quietly… mostly)!

We also love a bit of live music. Twin Atlantic are one of our favourite bands and have seen them more times than I can recall. The past few years we have also seen Foo Fighters, Texas, Madonna, Royal Blood, Bon Jovi, and we are looking forward to seeing Kylie later on this year!

Oh my goodness Daniel! You are a literal genius, we can't thank you enough for our beautiful photos.

I’m a huge dog lover, but our Sprocker Spaniel, Lola, truly stole my heart - along with any tennis ball she comes across!

She’s full of energy, endlessly affectionate, and, bless her, just a little bit accident-prone.

Whether she’s zooming around like a maniac, getting herself into some ridiculous mishap, or snuggling up after a long walk, life with Lola is never boring. She’s a total whirlwind, but we wouldn’t have her any other way!

I have recently gotten into street photography. There’s something about it that fascinates me - raw, unscripted moments, interactions with strangers, and how everyday life can look cinematic through the lens. I love the freedom to experiment, learning new techniques and creating something just for myself.

It is also a great excuse to hang out in town with some of my photography friends, shoot the breeze and drink coffee.

Maybe one day I'll be the next Martin Parr, Vivian Maier or Simon Murphy!
